CPM Machines
A CPM, or continuous passive motion, machine allows joints--most notably the knee and shoulder joints--to be moved after surgery without a patient having to use her muscles. A CPM machine bends and flexes joints at a given rate.
A CPM machine can help to overcome the psychological fear of moving the knee joint after knee surgery. A CPM machine can also reduce swelling and hence the possibility of blood clots while increasing the range of movement in the knee joint.
